What Are the Essential Design Elements of a Tropical-Style Kitchen
The kitchen in your home is without a doubt one of the most important rooms. You not only cook there, but also spend time with family there, entertain guests, and do a variety of other things. Because of how important the space is, many people put a lot of time and effort into how their kitchen looks and is designed.
While there are many different styles of kitchens, one that has grown incredibly popular recently is the tropical-style kitchen. A tropical-style kitchen is not only found on resorts and near beaches but in any kitchen across the world. It is a kitchen that is relaxed, bright, and makes it feel like you are on vacation.
Without any further ado, this article is going to go over some essential design elements of a tropical-style kitchen.
Starting With a White Base and then Add Splashes of Color
In most cases, tropical-style kitchens will begin with an all-white base. They may have white walls, white kitchen cabinets, white shelves, and more. This is a great base color and is especially good for tropical kitchens as it is a fairly relaxing color and one that shouldn’t be too offensive for anyone.
Once you have that white base, the next step is to introduce some splashes of color. This can be through art, through the furniture you have in the kitchen, or you can even decide to paint the walls or add some wallpaper.
As for the colors you add, that is completely up to you. We generally recommend brighter colors that are vibrant, but plenty of darker colors or muted tones can still fit well in a tropical-style kitchen. If you want to make sure the colors you choose look good and fit well together, be sure to use a color wheel.
Don’t Forget About the Greenery
Another important part of any kitchen, but especially a tropical-style kitchen is greenery. Having plants and flowers in the space can help it be much more relaxing and have that natural appeal that many people desire.
You can have any number of different plants and flowers in your space. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, and scents, and you will certainly be able to find some that fit your space incredibly well. These can be kept in a simple vase on the countertop, in a pot on the shelf, or even hanging from the wall or ceiling. Feel free to get creative here and put them wherever you think will look the best.
In addition to plants themselves, floral-designed art or wallpaper can also be a welcomed addition to any tropical kitchen. Of course, if you have pets, you want to make an effort to avoid having any plants that are toxic for pets. The same goes for if you have children.
The Presence of Textures
In many contemporary and modern kitchens, the surfaces are often very sleek and smooth. However, this sort of thing doesn’t work very well in tropical kitchens. These are more relaxed and laid-back environments and often benefit from textures like wall paneling and more interesting cabinetry with depth and/or texture.
Textured walls, interesting art, and finding other ways to introduce different textures can be a wonderful way to help your kitchen feel a little more tropical. Also, don’t be shy about introducing different materials around the kitchen, too. In particular, wicker and rattan can make wonderful additions in the form of chairs, tables, and even wall art.
We hope that this guide has helped you learn more about the essential design elements of a tropical-style kitchen.
