The Last 6 Months of 2021 Taught us Alot of Things and Changed the Way we Shop

Everyone here at American Rattan can tell you that the last 6+ months of 2021 was without doubt the most difficut period of time they have experienced in their 20 years of operations. To be more specific it was the hardest period of time to achieve our main goal which is providing our customers a great shopping experience. Here is a brief list of problems that hampered our operations so intensely and continue to do so:
1. Factories in Southeast Asia shutting down operations by local governments due to Coronavirus outbreaks.
2. Factories not being able to ship products due to a shortage of containers.
3. Containers ships unable to leave overseas ports after a Coronavirus outbreak.
4. Container ships unable to unload cargo at U.S. ports due to Coronavirus positives.
5. Container ships unable to unload cargo at U.S. ports due to port log jams with ships backed up waiting to get in.
6. Local ports having to shut down or go to a minimum manning due to Coronavirus outbreaks.
7. Local ports having problems staying fully manned as worker shortages plague the industry.
8. Trucks not being able to get into ports to load due to log jams and in some cases regulation demands by local government.
9. Trucking terminals delays in unloading and loading trucks due to shutdowns from Coronavirus outbreaks.

The majority of our customers have shown great understanding and patience as they wait patiently for their furniture to process and deliver. A process that used to take 6 to 8 weeks can now at times turn into a 6 to 8 month process that requires utmost patience. And our customers are the best and most patient.

SOME HOPE FOR 2022

Manufacturers are reporting that they have containers arriving this month January 2022. Of course now that we’ve had the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus hit we can only be unsure as to how that will affect their schedule.

HOW THE SHOPPING PROCESS FOR INDOOR AND OUTDOOR RATTAN AND WICKER FURNITURE HAS CHANGED

With customer orders backlogged 6 months or more its going to take awhile for manufacturers to get caught up. And its a first come first serve process. This means getting a reservation in for furniture you like now meaning as soon as possible puts you in the position of also receiving the furniture as quickly as possible. As mentioned this is also a new ordering situation for us and unprecedented times have called for unprecedented process changes.
